Harmony Pigmented Stains

Harmony Pigmented Stains have been designed for the pastel decoration of wooden projects. They contain organic solvents, dyes and pigments for excellent flow, uniform colour, speed of drying and resistance to fading in light. They are ideal for application on oak, ash and pine species. To achieve semi-opaque effects the stain is best applied by spraying and wiping, or to achieve a more solid opaque look it is best applied by spraying and leaving.

Preparation

  • What you need: 180 – 240 Grit & Cotton Cloth
  • Sand the timber with 180 – 240 grit paper (depending on species).
  • Ideally air blow debris off the surface and wipe clean with a white cotton cloth.
  • Stir thoroughly to agitate residue in the bottom of the tin. Power stirring is recommended.
  • Trial the stain and subsequent clear lacquer on an off-cut of the same timber substrate to establish the colour is suitable.

Application

  • What you need: Spray Gun or Brush
  • The application of Harmony Solvent Stains enhances the grain structure and balances the natural colour differences out.
  • They can be applied by wiping on and off using a rag, spraying or brushing.
  • If spraying we recommend a spray gun (pressure/suction/gravity) with the filters removed, using a 1.4 mm to 1.8 mm tip. If fine staining use a spray gun with 1.0 mm or 1.2 mm tip.
  • If brushing we recommend a good quality synthetic brush for an ultra-smooth finish.
  • We recommend using a non-yellowing lacquer over the pigmented stains to avoid discolouration.

Harmony Dye Stains

Harmony Solvent Stains have been designed using organic solvents, dyes and pigments for good fluidity, consistent colour and rapid drying. They are perfect on oak, ash and pine for accentuating and enhancing the wood’s natural grain, producing stunning rustic effects.

Preparation

  • What you need: 180 – 240 Grit Cotton Cloth
  • Sand the timber with 180 – 240 grit paper (depending on species).
  • Ideally air blow debris off the surface and wipe clean with a white cotton cloth.
  • Stir thoroughly to agitate residue in the bottom of the tin.
  • Trial the stain and subsequent clear lacquer on an off-cut of the same timber substrate to establish the colour is suitable

Application

  • What you need: Spray Gun or Brush
  • The application of Harmony Solvent Stains enhances the grain structure and balances the natural colour differences out.
  • They can be applied by wiping on and off using a rag, spraying or brushing.
  • If spraying we recommend using a spray gun (pressure/suction/gravity) with 1.4 mm to 1.8 mm tip. If fine staining use a spray gun with 1.0 or 1.2 mm tip. Spray application is ideal because of its penetration rate and the quick drying nature of stains.
  • If brushing we recommend a good quality synthetic brush for an ultra-smooth finish.
  • If rag applying always use a white cotton cloth as opposed to coloured to ensure dyes from the fabric do not contaminate the staining.

Harmony Patinas

Harmony Patinas are perfect for creating a decapé, distressed or vintage look to the grain of wooden projects. They contain organic solvents and pigments which grip the pores of the wood, giving a dramatic and aged look to your project. They are ideal on oak and best applied by spraying and wiping.

Preparation

  • What you need: 240 - 280 and Grit Cotton Cloth
  • Coat the timber with one of the harmony stains and a good quality acrylic or PU.
  • Alternatively coat the timber with an opaque PU or acrylic primer and topcoat.
  • Sand the timber with 240 – 280 grit paper.
  • Ideally air blow debris off the surface and wipe clean with a white cotton cloth.
  • Stir thoroughly to agitate pigments in the bottom of the tin.

Application

  • What you need: Spray Gun or Cotton Cloth
  • The application of Harmony Patinas enhances the grain structure and contrasts the colour underneath.
  • If spraying we recommend using a spray gun (pressure/suction/gravity) with 1.4 mm to 1.8 mm tip. If fine staining use a spray gun with 1.0 or 1.2 mm tip.
  • After 10 minutes drying, use a woven abrasive pad to remove excess stock.
  • We recommend a woven fleece hand pad.
  • Clean excess away with a fresh white cotton cloth.
  • Finish by spraying a clear PU or acrylic lacquer to protect the desired look.
